Doubtless Bay

Doubtless Bay

The pohutakawa-lined white sand beaches of Doubtless Bay give yet another distinctive flavour to the varied landscape of Northland.

an image The Doubtless Bay area extends from Taupo Bay in the east to the Karikari Peninsula in the west. It includes the settlements of Hihi, Coopers Beach, Cable Bay, Taipa and Whatuwhiwhi, with its centre in busy Mangonui, a former whaling base in the early 1800s (and now well known for the best fish and chip shop in the north!).

At the end of the Karikari Peninsula you'll find Maitai Bay, an idyllic spot for family holidays. On the way to you pass a championship golf course and the award winning Karikari Estate vineyward. Whatuwhiwhi is the main township of the peninsula, close to Tokerau beach. The small township of Rangiputa is a popular destination for kite surfers.
